History


Founded in 1968, Macro 4 has been supplying business software and services for 45 years. Please take a step back in time with us as we acknowledge the key points in our company history.

1968 Macro 4 Limited founded in the UK, offering third party software tools that made the early mainframe operating systems easier to use
1976 Launch of Macro 4’s first proprietary product: Logout, a tool to simplify console management for mainframe computer operators (still used today)
1977 First overseas operation established in the US
1984-85 First European subsidiaries established in France, Italy and Switzerland
1986 Macro 4 plc floated on the London Stock Exchange

Moved into open systems with the acquisition of assured document delivery software
1999 Acquisition of InSync Software, Inc, to deliver advanced data manipulation solutions
2000 Document management capabilities extended through the acquisition of Viewpoint/ISI
  Acquisition of TraceMaster interactive testing and debugging software
2003 IBM OEM agreement to sell Macro 4 session management software for easier switching between mainframe applications
2004 Columbus workflow capability launched, designed for rapid implementation of multi-channel document delivery solutions
  FreezeFrame launched as a user-friendly alternative to established mainframe application performance management tools
2006 Launch of M4Explorer, a web user interface that helps non-experts to resolve mainframe application errors with ease
  Launch of cross-platform Java performance management software for proactive monitoring of web applications
2007 Performance portfolio further strengthened through two new software offerings: ExpeTune, for mainframe performance monitoring and ExpeTune DB, for DB2 database performance analysis
2009 Macro 4 acquired by UNICOM Global, one of the largest private software companies in the world
2010 SAP archiving solutions enhanced through certified integration with SAP NetWeaver® Information Lifecycle Management
2011 Mainframe solutions embrace the Eclipse integrated development environment with the launch of the M4Workbench Eclipse framework
2012 New cash allocation/application software introduced as part of an integrated suite for order to cash automation
  UNICOM Global acquisitions DETEC and iET Solutions add IT Service Management and document composition to the company portfolio
2013 Macro 4 celebrates its 45th anniversary
