AutoJob Technical Features
Network Support
AutoJob is available in different configurations to suit the needs of any set-up.
Monitors
AutoJob includes six separate monitors. These are responsible for the submission of jobs according to date, time and/or the success of pre- and post-requisite jobs. The monitors also optimise job throughput by submitting work to under-utilised job queues and by controlling the submission of post-requisite jobs.
Calendars
Jobs can be run according to calendars which can be as complex or as simple as required. Any number of calendars can be created. Calendars can be tailored to reflect local variations such as working and non-working or holiday days and fiscal period ends. 'Virtual' calendars can be created to handle complex scheduling needs such as those for subsidiary companies or individual departments.
Job Definitions
A job definition is associated with each job scheduled to be run via AutoJob. Job definitions enable users to specify a number of details including: the job queue to which the job should be submitted; the scheduling requirements for the job (e.g. run this job at 10.00 every day except Wednesdays); any pre- or post-requisite conditions which need to be checked; and the output queue to which reports should be sent.
External Job Adoption
AutoJob can trap any batch job as it is submitted. Scheduling information can be added and the job treated identically to jobs created within AutoJob.
Reporting
AutoJob provides a number of facilities to monitor the activities of all the jobs it controls. These include powerful on-line enquiry facilities to provide an instant view of all jobs as they are executed together with detailed audit trail information for each job which is available both on-line or in hardcopy reports. A Future Schedules display will also show all jobs which are scheduled to be run within a user-specified time frame.
Partitions
Partitions, within AutoJob, provide a means of logically grouping jobs to simplify the handling of scheduling requirements. For example, there may be groups of jobs for different departments (Accounts, Payroll, Personnel, etc.), or for different companies within a group.
Restricted Task Scheduling
Restricted state tasks, such as SAVSYS and reclaim storage, can be scheduled by AutoJob - eliminating the need for additional shift cover.
Maximum Security
User access to AutoJob is controlled via a comprehensive security matrix.
