- Simplify menu generation for all users from a single point of control.
- Specify the times during which users can access the system,
certain applications and individual menu items.
Access Manager allows organisations to improve security for all
applications; improve management and control of all interactive
users; increases system availability and batch throughput which
in turn allows greater flexibility and decreases training costs
throughout the enterprise.

Access Manager
Technical Features
Environments
Multiple environments can be created on each System i machine for
interactive areas such as development, test and production. Individual
users, groups of users and job functions can be matched to specific
items within separate environments and access limited to those items only.
Access Control
Users sign on once only to a single menu which lists the applications
and items they are authorised to access. Profiles can be created
for groups of users as well as for individual users, simplifying
administration. Users are switched transparently between different
machines in the network according to where a particular application resides.
System-Wide Security
Access to command lines and function keys can be specified for individual
users and for user groups. Access to the system, certain applications
and individual menu items can be limited to certain times. Terminals
left unattended can be locked after a nominated period of time.
System-Wide Control
Users can be nominated as departmental administrators to manage
access to applications under their authority. Temporary stops can
be applied to applications and applications locked dynamically,
for instance during software cutovers or when running backups. Users
can then be brought back online in a controlled way.
Operator Facilities
From the operations console, operators can link to every user's
terminal to take action such as setting application stops or running
an OS/400® command at the user's terminal.
Networking Facilities
All Access Manager definitions can be centralised on one machine
and distributed to other machines in the network, either via the
network or on tape if machines are not linked together.
