TURNOVER® for iSeries supports application modernization

Software change management solution includes new features for database modernization, and compatibility with CA 2E and LANSA.

PETERBOROUGH, NH – August 19, 2014 – SoftLanding® Systems, a division of UNICOM® Global has announced a new release of its TURNOVER® software change management solution for the IBM i platform, aimed at helping developers modernize their IBM i applications. The new software also helps to ‘future proof’ IBM i applications so that they can be easily maintained by a new generation of developers.

TURNOVER now includes object-based type code conversion, integration with the CA 2E and LANSA development environments, and compatibility with the latest release of IBM's Rational Developer for i integrated development environment (IDE).

Type code conversion paves the way for database modernization Many mature applications running under IBM i use older DDS database file objects. The new TURNOVER type code conversion functionality helps IBM i developers convert DDS files within their applications to the DDL format to make use of modern SQL tables. Modernization from DDS to DDL can deliver faster application response times, better data integrity and enhanced database functions.

“SQL tables are easier to manage and manipulate and offer greater flexibility around application modernization as developers implement new interfaces for their legacy business systems,” said Jim Fisher, SoftLanding Operations Manager. “Because SQL is a popular industry standard used in many different languages and technologies, switching to DDL will also make it easier for the newer generation of developers to work with and maintain database applications. Converting DDS files to DDL is an important step towards future proofing IBM i applications and it conforms with IBM’s roadmap recommendations for IBM i. The benefits that these latest TURNOVER enhancements provide to our IBM i customers further demonstrate SoftLanding’s ongoing commitment to investing in the IBM i platform.”

LANSA v13.2 TURNOVER integrates with the LANSA 4GL (4th generation computing language) development environment to provide developers with automated software change management capabilities. TURNOVER manages and controls the software development lifecycle of LANSA applications for the IBM i platform, including modernizing for the Web and Windows using Visual LANSA.

CA 2E v8.6 compatibility TURNOVER’s integration with the CA 2E rapid application development tool provides CA 2E developers with assured levels of Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) for IBM i.

TURNOVER saves time for CA 2E developers by allowing them to define consistent, repeatable and auditable change management procedures which can be tailored to individual applications.

Compatibility with IBM Rational Developer for i v9.1 The new version of TURNOVER is compatible with IBM Rational Developer for i (RDi) v9.1, the latest version of IBM’s integrated development environment (IDE) built on the Eclipse platform.

TURNOVER is a software change management solution that provides developers with end-to-end Application Lifecycle Management capabilities for the IBM i platform, ensuring that applications remain highly functional, reliable and auditable. SoftLanding’s IBM i products and solutions are commercially available through UNICOM Global’s UNICOM Systems and Macro 4 divisions.
